I never really got to spend much time in nature--mother is all about the big cities--but I'd love it if you showed me.

Big cities are okay I guess. I mean the foods better anyway. But I don't like all the people. I had to go to New York for a training thing and it was kind of terrible.

But not the sandwiches they were fucking top notch.

You know, you're about the sixth or seventh person from Earth I've met who's mentioned New York. Where is it, exactly?

I miss sandwiches.

[yes, more veggie sandwiches would be nice]

One of our biggest cities. There's New York. Chicago. San Francisco. Lots of people and skyscrapers or whatever.

It's on the east coast. Where the Statue of Liberty is if that thing is still there in the future.

I've heard of San Francisco, but not the other two. And the Statue of Liberty is in Metropolis, Earthgov's capital.

Metropolis?

I guess that's a better name than New York. No one knows what York is. I don't know what York is.

[Other than the peppermint patty kind.]

Yeah. It's huge, it's the biggest city on Earth. It was the home of Superman? Does that sound familiar?

[she laughs] I have no sprocking clue what a York is. Let alone a new one.

Yeah I know who Superman is.

[He figures naming a town after the birthplace of a fictional character is as good as anything else. ]

I'm from a place called Fall's End. Which is at the end of a river with a waterfall. So at least that fucking makes sense. The Whitetail mountains are full of whitetail deer. Henbane River is chock full of henbane plants during the spring. All that makes a lot more sense than whatever the hell a York is.

Oh, good! I mention Superman to most people and they look at me like I'm crazy.

It sounds like it must be beautiful. [and she laughs warmly] And yes, your hometown's name makes a lot more sense than a York.

It really is. All lush and green with wildlife everywhere.

Or well, it was before the cult moved in and started drugging the animals and leaving corpses everywhere.

I really do miss the trees.

Oh. Yeah. All that work to try and plant new trees and we wind up here. [a pause] This planet's a little depressing, you know?

It is. It's so bleak. And the cold doesn't help. Might have been nice to visit and see for a while, before going back home and taking a hot shower and never coming back.

Oh, I know. And I wish the aliens were better about providing stuff for this kind of environment. I would do just about anything for some hot chocolate.

Just from a practical standpoint keeping people happy keeps them compliant. They could probably get whatever they wanted out of us if they gave us things that make life worth living.

Well not whatever they wanted. But you know what I mean.

Yeah, I know what you mean. We'd complain a lot less if we had some little luxuries. Food that's fresh, not canned. Actually cute clothing in our sizes. Little nicknacks to make our apartments nice. Stuff like that.

I never thought I'd crave salad but.. Here we are.

Don't talk to me about clothes, I'm a walking Hawaiian print disaster.

Grife, I know! What I wouldn't give for even just a plain Caesar salad.

I don't know, I think they look kind of cute on you!

I'm thinking those Cobb salads that have croutons and carrots and mushrooms and baby corns.

They so do not. I look like I belong on a yacht. They're the worst.

Oh, now that sounds really good. Why won't the aliens give us some lettuce? I'll even take plain iceberg lettuce at this rate.
