[she nods] I think you'll love it.

And of course you can have a dog! You can have as many dogs as you like.

[teasingly, hands behind her back, swaying back and forth]

Because you can have as many dogs as you want? Golden Retrievers and Labradors and German Shepard and Huskies and Malamutes and Shiba Inu and Boxers and Pit Bulls and as many dogs as you like?

[He's gonna have a whole pack, just you wait.]

Any new future breeds of dogs I should be aware of?

[unphase]

Well, there are your usual cross breeds? And Winath has its own breed of native dog, though the only major difference is the fur is green.

I'd take a green dog. All dogs are good dogs.

[unphase]

Well, you can't cross-breed them with other dogs. Not unless you get a veterinarian involved. But Winathian dogs are said to be very smart and loyal.

That's fine, puppies are great, but I don't want to deal with another dog in heat.

[Or worse, wolves in heat.]

[unphase]

I wouldn't have the first idea of what to do with a dog in heat. [a trifle bit apologetically] Mother and I have always been partial to cats.

[theweakhavepurpose]

They're worse. They scream.

[The 'spay and neuter your pets' practice hadn't really reached Montana.]

Cats are a little easier, you don't have to take them for walks and while they can claw your furniture they probably won't eat your entire couch because they're bored while you're at work.

[unphase]

[she giggles a little] Had that happen to your couch before?

And my dining table.

He was a good dog, he just didn't really like being cooped up in the house all day and if I left him in the back yard he'd jump the fence or dig under it.

Well when he was young anyway. By the time he was about 10 he just wanted to plop on the bed and sleep all day. Lucky dog.

Oh, wow. Really? How do you eat a dining table? [and she smiles] That's why I've always been partial to cats. Way less maintenance.

But that sounds cute. Doesn't everyone want that, the freedom to just sleep all day with no responsibilities?

Someone bringing them food and attention and all they have to do is lounge around rent free and look cute.

I could get behind that.

Though being a dog means you can't drive or go to movies or have opposable thumbs, so it's not all great.

[unphase]

[laughing] That's not all cats do. Sometimes they climb up onto your lap and purr at you.

Yeah, there are some advantages and disadvantages to being a dog. Personally, I'm happy being a Bgztlian.

Yeah. I like being able to talk and open jars and don't have to go outside on a leash.

[Thinking back on it he's grateful Jacob never actually leashed him like a dog. That seems a thing he might have done.]

[she winks] Those are all distinct advantages to being humanoid.

[really, if she knew half of the stuff Jacob did to Pratt, she'd have to temporarily toss the Legion's "No Killing" rule out the window]

Yeah. I'll stick with the human thing.

Alright so.. future with a pack of dogs on a wildlife preserve. I think I can handle that.

Probably for the best.

[it's all she can do to not squeal and bounce up and down, clapping her hands] I think you can, too! And I'll visit all the time.

Yeah, make sure I haven't gone crazy or anything.

[Oh wait. Optimism. He can do this.]

Come see the dogs, they'll love the attention.

I'm sure you won't go crazy.

[and she sounds entirely sure of that]

Okay! Out of curiosity, how many dogs are you planning to get?

[He is not so sure, but he won't argue for now.]

Two or three. Don't worry I won't end up with twenty dogs. They're a lot of work.

Two or three sound good. Good for company for you and each other.

Too many and they start having their own pack dynamics, and I've pulled enough wolves apart that wanted to kill each other over food. Don't need any more of that.
