[In news that is simultaneously good and bad, Carlisle knows whether or not people would notice if he died.]
They noticed my absence when I did not report to the church. Had it not been for that, perhaps they would have noticed because of my family name -- not because of me as an individual.

[He shakes his head at Pratt's question; no, he's not famous so much as his family, but explaining how incredible they were compared to him just makes him feel small, so he avoids it for now.]
I can relate, unfortunately. I considered throwing myself into the Cottonmouth River so many times, but could not find the strength to do it. I feared what would happen to those around me if I continued to live among them, but also what would become of me in death. Would there be enough of my essence left to let me rejoin the cycle? Would my goddess allow it even if there was? And what of my lineage? What would I leave behind?
Of course, now that I have experienced my end and I find it worse than I imagined, I know not if my cowardice was the right choice. For better or for worse, I am still here.

I suppose we will.
[He may still be damned forever, given he's not sure he was offered any right choices in life. He stayed alive, damning the people of Bear Den when he died and rose as a Revenant; if he'd died earlier, perhaps he'd have risen all the same. It's not as though he was given the choice of perishing when he failed his coming-of-age ceremony, as his family made sure he lived.
No, he refuses to blame them for his affliction. They didn't know. None of them could have known. The hardest part is having no one to truly blame for his problems, leaving Carlisle to turn on himself rather than face the truth that most of what happened to him is just unfortunate circumstance.]
I will work on my own atonement when my energies are once more in order, and I can heal your hand. I trust I will have learned from the mistakes I made.
[And not raise any zombie goldfish.]

[And when Pratt makes it sound like he means it, it makes Carlisle feel like he can believe it, too.]
Of course.
[Said very much in the way he often spoke in Hadriel. Maybe he's feeling just a little more hopeful.]
I will contact you when I am able to heal again. Until then, please be safe, Deputy.
Of course.

Deputy, if I may have a moment of your time, I have a question for you.
[Attached is a blurry photo of what appears to be the aberration that's been hanging around the cattle since shortly after the Kieran incident.]
What is this?

[ It's a couple minutes before she responds, hope that's not too worrying. When she does, it's audio, and she sounds short of breath and a little bit frantic. ]
Actual emergency! It - it's Carlisle, something's really wrong with him!

Umm...
[ Hang on let her just peek out of her hiding spot for a sec. Her voice is hushed now, she doesn't want him to hear her. ]
No, he's not. I mean, his eyes are, but they're always like that. He's... what is he doing?

I am fairly certain I can prove I have seen this creature.
[Another attachment comes in, a second picture of the Thing in the Fields; this time, the creature is looking his way, its eyes glowing so vibrantly that they tint the rest of the photo.]
There it is. This is not a 'cryptid.' It is quite real, and it is sitting among the cattle. What is it doing out there, and why does it have a bell on its neck?

No, I'm - I'm trying to keep him away from the barn. He's got some kind of ... death aura going on? There's a big ring of dead plants.
[ She almost got caught in it! That was fun. ]

Yes, it does seem to have an unusual attachment to them, particularly for an aberration.
How long as this been here? And why was I not informed?

Right. Yeah, no, I'm not getting near him. He's just ... sitting around, right now. I think he lost track of me.
[ .... Waaaaait a sec, though, somebody sounds entirely too familiar with this phenomenon. ]
Has this happened before?

[WHAT.]
This cannot be the same abomination. That one was destroyed, was it not? Did Ben not destroy it?
[Not that it would matter, so long as the magic animating it — his magic — had more bones nearby to inhabit.]
