Yeah they're not really good at what they're supposed to be doing. Or he isn't anyway. I haven't talked to the others.

I wonder if maybe he sucks because no one here is hopeful about anything and he's starving to death.

I really have been remiss in not talking to them. All of them. I should have at least tried.

[a short laugh] Maybe! I haven't met many hopeful people here, just people trying to get by.

I haven't gone into any of their temples, I'm not sure if they live there. Maybe you could talk to them face to face even.

How do I do it? Do I just say "'alien', I want to talk to you' and they respond?

I'd guess they'd prefer you call them by their names. But honestly I'm not sure how you contact them.

Maybe you can text them on the phones.

[she laughs] Probably, yeah. I wasn't gonna call them aliens to their faces. That would be rude. Mother, wherever she is, would have an aneurysm.

I guess it's worth a try?

Maybe? I'd like to think so, that we can find at least a little bit of common ground. After all, as much as we need them, they need us just as badly.

It's true. You'd think they'd be a lot more helpful considering we're basically feeding them.

[unphase]

[she nods]

Not only that, if those Null ever show up again, we'll be expected to protect them. That's how it was the last time the Null came.

If they want protection they should be giving us guns. Do they want us to arrow a bunch of transforming robots to death?

Yeah, pretty much. At least that's what I've heard from people who were here back then.

That's going to go terribly. I wonder how many people died defending them.

[Sure Hope can bring them back, but that's not the point.]

[she sighs] From what I've heard. . . it was a lot. And Hope was so strained from the attack, the resurrections. Weren't exactly perfect.

Do I want to know?

I do. What went wrong?

Nothing like missing limbs or anything, thank grife. But people came back unable to see or hear or speak. And they had to wait for the aliens to regain their strength to have those problems fixed, which apparently took a while.

Eugh. Okay that's awful. I'm not sure if being unable to see is any better than missing an arm. Especially in unfamiliar territory like here.

Man, that better not happen again.

[unphase]

Being blind around here would be pretty rough. You'd have to find someone you really trusted to guide you around. It would make getting dressed hard, making food hard, even eating food hard.

I hope it doesn't, but I don't know if it won't.

I'd probably accidentally walk into the ocean and drown.

[Or likely bash his head into a wall and then die of a concussion.]

We've got a small force of people willing to protect this place, so that's a start I guess. But it won't be enough if that's what happened last time.

We seriously need more guns.

You wouldn't. I'd keep an eye on you, make sure you were all right. You know, assuming I can keep an eye on you.

How would we get them?

[Pratt blinks, a little stunned. This whole conversation and everything he knows about her and he's still shocked when she shows the barest hint of caring about him.]

[And he's not going to follow it up with something about how he doesn't deserve it. So that's progress.]

I suppose we'll have to see if these false gods can get them for us. I'm not sure. I guess I can ask them.

[Talking to the gods more isn't exactly appealing - but he knows he should. Needs to stop isolating himself from everything.]

I think that Rage can provide ammunition to people who have guns. She'd probably be the best bet to ask. She'd probably make us do something awful to get them, though.

I've done awful things in my life. I'm already damned. I guess I can take one for the team and try to get us some protection.

[His method of being selfless always involves some sort of harm to himself.]

[she can't imagine it would be easy, performing a task for Rage, but she's willing to help him]
